The recent COVID 19 worldwide pandemic and subsequent response of our government by introducing a lockdown and now a phased opening of the economy in the Presidents address of the 21 April 2020, in an attempt to save humanity created overnight panic and change in the way that we live. The constant promulgation of regulations and review of the legal landscape as COVID 19 evolves has also created much uncertainty for our clients, stakeholders and business associates. With statistics, as at writing of this communication, sitting at a staggering 3,300 confirmed coronavirus cases in South Africa with 58 deaths, the uncertainty heightens plunging the human mind into confusion. It is against this background that the need for this communication has become eminent.

 

1. First and foremost, our hearts go out to anyone who has been impacted by the virus, either directly or indirectly. Our thoughts are especially with those who are sick and for whom we pray for a full recovery. We are truly inspired by the selfless healthcare workers around the world who are on the front lines working tirelessly to care for people in need. Whilst the physical barriers have been created by virtue of the lockdown, the reality is that our sick and healthcare workers cannot live in a vacuum and active steps have to be taken to address their other needs, including their LEGAL needs.

 

2. Second, at NKA, the health and safety of our employees, families and communities are of a primary concern.
